Untaken For Now – C O Wyler

This fourth and final instalment in the “Untaken” series covers the 12 months after the Rapture.

The now well-known characters endure the first year after the Rapture, the start of the seven-year Tribulation. The organisation known as the “One World League”, headed up by an anti-Christ figure, tries to hunt them down, whilst they put plans in place to become untraceable and to survive.

The book starts cleverly, offering enough background for the reader if you were jumping straight in to this fourth episode, but also refreshing information for those coming back to the characters and plotlines, with additional background that fills in a few gaps.

Increasingly the story has more Christian content, primarily as the characters are starting to ponder what is happening to the world, and why. At first some are blaming God, a response we often see, asking why He doesn’t give the answers … without realising that He gave the answer over 2000 years ago through Jesus, plus the explanations that can be found in His written word.

The story continues through the first year after the Rapture, with perspective given from three protagonists. It helps to give different angles on the circumstances – a (new) believer, a sceptic and a non-believer. Each has their own understanding of what is happening, but all three doubt they are getting the whole truth from the new world order.

The control exerted by the post-Rapture leadership breeds a natural suspicion, as it is contrary to our God-given free will. And it becomes clearer that a world without any moral compass, without any kindness or consideration for others, where only selfishness abounds, would be a very unpleasant world to live in. There are some fascinating ideas tabled, especially in the area of technology and AI – very pertinent to some of what we are seeing already.

One point that came to mind when reading this – all the characters were not believers at the time of the Rapture, but each had experienced some contact with Christians, had some input or background. And when they see what was unfolding in the world, they were equipped to see the truth and believe. It is making the point that any efforts to introduce and inform people to Christianity will never be wasted.

When and how the Rapture will happen of course we do not know, nor what it will look like. But this series of books, and especially this final instalment, offers some good pointers to look out for.

The books are engaging, well written and offer an insight into what we, or future generations, may be up against, all of it grounded in Biblical prophecies.
